You are allowed to feel the way you feel

The above tweet means a lot to me. I am trying to surround myself with people who let me feel the way I feel.

I am trying to distance myself from people who say things like 'you have no reason to feel this way,' or 'other people have it so much worse than you', guilt tripping me and making me feel even more ashamed than I already have the potential to do.

Drawing by me of me with one of my best friends.

Instead, I am am spending more and more time with people who say things like, 'it's understandable you would feel this way' and 'you have a right to feel the way you feel'.

Furthermore, I am trying to have friendships with people who let me speak my mind without trying to quieten me. Who affirm that I am allowed to speak and I have a right to do so.

You have a right to feel the way you feel. You have a right to speak your mind.

Your feelings are valid. You are valid.

It's understandable to want someone to understand what you go through.
